Mexican film composer, bilingual singer-songwriter, conductor and arranger.

Monica grew up always surrounded by music because of her family, who in spite of not being professional musicians have always been contagious about their passion for music. She began writing songs at a very early age and began her music training in the conservatory ‘Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey’ as a classical pianist. At the same time, she received private voice lessons from various vocal coaches allowing her to learn and experiment with different music styles. Being aware of the evolution of the music industry, she got a diploma in Music Production and Audio Engineering at Audio Experts studios.

Following her passion for storytelling and her interest in visual arts and film, on 2013 Monica began her music studies at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she decided to major in Film Scoring with a minor in Literature. She also released her EP ‘Condemned to Dream’ with songs written both in English and Spanish. Her song ‘Sepia’ made her the recipient of the 2014 BMI Peermusic Latin Scholarship.

During her freshman year Monica got involved with the Audire Soundtrack Choir and Orchestra, which arranges and performs music from films, TV, anime and video games. She started as a singer and became its director from 2015 until she graduated. She was in charge of conducting, arranging repertoire and producing their concerts. One of the highlights was making Audire debut with their own show ‘Animation Universe’ at the Berklee Performance Center, which is the college’s biggest public venue.

As a film composer Monica has scored several short films. Among them, she scored ‘Vernon and Violet’ directed by Nikoletta Kanakis. This project has made the official selection of seven film festivals including the ‘Barcelona International Short Film and Video Festival 2017’, ‘Art Color Digital Cinema International Film Festival 2018’ and the ‘Boston Short Film Festival 2017’. She also scored the short film ‘Hyphen’ directed by Maria Servellon. Hyphen was screened at 14 international film festivals and it received the award for Best Music at the Femme Film Fest 2019.

During the summer of 2016, Monica did an internship in Los Angeles, CA at Music & Motion Productions. After graduating she moved back to Mexico where she had the opportunity to explore the world of video game music by participating in several game jams and collaborating on student projects from the school CEDIM, where she started teaching audio integration in the Animation department. Currently she is a professor at ITESM.

She co-founded I’m Awake! Studio, where she is the composer and game designer of the game ‘Camille’s Coffee’, currently in development.
